About

A Short History…

The Group was founded in 1914, along with the 35th, 36th and 37th groups also at the school after the beginning of the First World War, only five years after scouting had begun in Nottingham. The Group has undergone many changes of its leaders and headquarters over the years, finally resting in the school’s staff car park since 1981. However, the period 1918-1948 is assumed to have been the period when the Group had been temporarily shut down, with only the 34th continuing from 1948.

Our LocationThe Group (and Explorer) Scout Leader is now Ben who first started helping as an Assistant Scout Leader back in 1992. More recently, in 2005, Pete was appointed Assistant Scout Leader, who along with Lizzy (aASL) now run the Scout Troop. Mary, Yvonne, and Rachel help Ben with the Explorer Scouts whilst Tom and Joe help out with the Scout Troop. Richard (Ex GSL/ESL), Dave (Advisor), Graham (Treasurer), and Simon (D of E), also help out with the Scout Troop/Explorer Scout Unit.

The Group has had an annual Summer camp (and the ESU an annual Easter camp – now D of E Practice) ever since 1960 and both the Scouts and Explorers have taken part in many other expeditions and activities over the years including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Norway, and Sailing. The Group website was first developed for the new millennium and continues to be updated and devolped further. It has proven to be valuable in cutting down paperwork, allowing interaction through the gallery and guestbook/guestmap and establishing the Group on the WWW. More recently the site was fully revamped in order to bring it up-to-date with the latest web technologies and enhance user interaction and administration.
