The school’s CCF (cadet force) had their annual inspection this Friday and as usual it gave us an opportunity to get out for the day. Always wanting to offer a new experience for the Scouts we decided that a day of climbing and caving would satisfy the need.
Mike Pilling from Focus Activities led the day for us and a most enjoyable day was had, regardless of the wet conditions. We spent the morning on Black Rocks above Cromford and the afternoon in the Devonshire Cavern, an old lead mine. I can thoroughly recommend Mike as a provider as he not only ran the activities with an air of complete confidence but also kept the boys entertained with his knowledge of the local history of Matlock and Cromford. We will most certainly be going back for more.
