Easter Expedition to Borrowdale

Weather conditions in the Lake District limited our activities as snow kept us off the higher central fells and focused our activities on some of the smaller peaks. Our first day was thoroughly wet with driving rain and hail keeping us company across Robinson, Hindscarth, Dale Head and Fleetwith Pike. The weather improved on Friday and enable all to climb Blencathra. One group took the long path via Scales Tarn while two other groups climbed the more direct Hall’s Fell which proved to be an exciting route in the wind. With five of the Scouts diverted to Glasgow for the finals of the Concert Band competition we spent Saturday on Glaramara undertaking a micro navigation exercise pitting our skills against the new GPS units. On the whole the Scouts performed well and enjoyed the challenge. With a fine sprinkling of Snow on the top of Skiddaw and blue skies our final day traversing Little Man, Skiddaw, Carlside and Ullock Pike was a near perfect finish to our trip. finally congratulations to the Scouts, Explorer Scouts and other members of the school Concert Band who competed in Glasgow and came away with a silver medal.
